Design

Generally, the Suunto watches have a rugged and bulky design. However, the Suunto 9 Peak has given an ultra-thin and small design. This watch comes with a 43mm diameter and 10.6mm in thickness which is 36% thinner and 37% lighter than the Suunto 9 Baro. This makes it comfortable to wear 24/7. The Garmin Fenix 6 series also has a similar feature compared to the new flagship smartwatch from Suunto.

With that said, the small size of this new smartwatch does not mean that it lacks any features. It comes with all the features of the Suunto 9 Baro. Read ahead to know more about its features and specs.

This GPS smartwatch from Suunto comes in two versions, one with a titanium case and another with a stainless-steel case. The stainless-steel case options cost you around $569, whereas the titanium option costs at least $ 130 more. Within the case, there is no difference in the features and specifications of the new Suunto 9 Peak smartwatch.

However, the titanium option is lighter than the latter, making it super comfortable to wear on the wrist.

The silicone strap comes with a metal pin to secure the watch comfortably on your wrist.

Display

It comes with a 1.2” trans reflective color touchscreen display protected by sapphire glass. It also has an automatic LCD backlight that adapts the display brightness based on the surrounding light, and it gives you a better view of the display, especially in the darkness.

Features

Like Garmin wearables, the Suunto is also known for its advanced sport tracking smartwatches. The Suunto 9 series is also not an exception for this. Along with continuous heart rate monitoring and blood oxygen level monitoring (SpO2), the Suunto 9 Peak can track more than 80+ activities, including running, hiking, swimming, cycling, etc.

GPS and Navigation

The advanced GPS/navigation system in Suunto 9 Peak helps you explore new routes. If you get lost at any time, it enables you to find the way back to your vehicle or base station. A similar feature is also available in advanced Garmin Watches such as Garmin Fenix 6 Series, Instinct, Enduro, etc.

Moreover, the Suunto 9 Peak allows you to plan your route and gives you location-based route recommendations. You can even mark important points on the trail to explore it even more. All these can be done right from the Suunto Mobile App.

Sport Tracking Features

As mentioned, the Suunto 9 Peak comes with advanced sport tracking features that help you improve your performance to the next level.

Swimming

This durable smartwatch is waterproof up to 100 meters and tracks both open and closed water swimming, including the number of laps, pace, distance, stroke type, SWOLF, etc.

However, it does not track heart rate underwater. If you want to track heart rate underwater, you should use Suunto Smart Heart Rate Belt or go for the Garmin Swim 2.

Running

Like Garmin Forerunner Series, the Suunto 9 Peak can provide important running metrics such as running pace, average speed, the real-time running speed with the help of Snap to Route, lap comparison, and much more. If you use a foot pod, calibrate it automatically.

Other Important Features to note down.

  • Advanced sleep monitoring with average blood oxygen level, sleep quality, sleep duration and wake time.
  • Training load tracking
  • Stress and recovery monitoring
  • Elevation monitoring
  • Weather updates: It is a helpful feature for hikers.
  • It is one of the best smartwatches for cycling. It can track Cycling speed, real-time speed, etc.
  • Over the air software update: This feature allows you update the software of Suunto 9 Peak through the companion app, the Suunto App. This is a unique feature available only in Suunto 9 Peak.

Battery Life

Even though it is the slimmest and durable smartwatch ever made by the Suunto, the Suunto 9 Peak has a similar battery life to its predecessor. The intelligent battery modes give maximum time duration between the charging. In time mode, it can last for more than two weeks. The company claims that the battery can go up to 170 hours (about one week) on a single charge with GPS.

In addition to that, it comes with a tour mode that offers an even more, longer battery life, and it is extremely useful if you are on a long trip.

If you are looking for a smartwatch with longer battery life, go for solar-powered smartwatches from Garmin such as the Garmin Enduro, Fenix 6 Solar watches, or Garmin Instinct.

Availability

The Suunto 9 Peak is available at Amazon and Suunto’s official website. The shipping of the new Suunto 9 Peak will be starting from June 17. The available colors are graphite blue and birch white for the titanium version and black and grey for the stainless-steel model.
