Polar Ignite 2 vs Polar Vantage M2 – What’s new in 2021?

Polar Ignite 2 vs Polar Vantage M2

Polar added two new sports smartwatches to its range this spring (2021). Firstly the Ignite 2 and then the Vantage M2. Now, both offer more sophisticated activity monitoring and surprise glitz to your workouts, as the two affordable models are updated.

The Polar Vantage M2 is a reinterpretation of the company’s mid-range running device that includes several elements from its higher-end models.

In addition, the Polar Ignite 2 has a longer battery life and can be used for 20 hours of GPS training or 5 days of smartwatch use – whichever comes first.

The Polar Ignite 2 is the sequel to Polar Ignite

Polar introduced both the Ignite 2 and Vantage M2 in a sports watch shake-up. A significant portion of the latest Polar Ignite 2 is an aesthetic upgrade. A glitzy Swarovski edition joins new colors, and an etched bezel adds a touch of elegance.

It is available in champagne (gold), pink, blue, and purple. The Ignite 2 was always directed (though not exclusively) at women, even more than the remainder of the Polar lineup – but it doesn’t skimp on features.

The Polar Ignite 2 includes GPS monitoring, 100 sport profiles, detailed sleep and recovery info, and FitSpark exercise tips, as well as a Weekly Summary feature that tracks your progress. Inevitably, heart rate is an essential aspect of the device, and it also includes regulated breathing modes.

M2 Polar Vantage

The Polar Vantage M2 was designed for serious runners, with a feature set that emphasizes goal-based training. It is priced lower than the Vantage V2, one of the most statistics-heavy sports watches offered today.

The FuelWise feature (as seen in the GritX outdoor watch) is carried over to the Vantage M2, assisting users in fueling for runs and races by alerting them whether to have a drink or snack.

This, along with the adaptive running workout routines and Training Load Pro appraisal of the runs, elevates the Vantage M2 just above Ignite 2 for those passionate about running and getting the most out of their body.

The Vantage M2 retains the FitSpark recommended runs, sleep and nighttime recharge monitoring, and optical HR sensor used in the rest of the lineup.

The Polar Ignite 2 is flashier than the first Ignite, with different colors, an etched bezel, and, oddly, two Swarovski crystal-encrusted band choices. It’s a watch made for daily use and to work out in. Plus, the latest bands make it appear somewhat like a fashion accessory than a traditional fitness tracker (a theme seen with Garmin’s recent offering, the Lily).

The fundamental changes, though, are on the inside. The battery life of the Ignite 2 has been dramatically increased, and it will now last up to five days. Plus, around 20 hours during training mode, compared with 17 hours for the initial Ignite. Additionally, there’s a new low-power setting for when you’ll be away from a power socket for an extended period of time.

There are new music buttons and weather displays, and increased GPS accuracy among the smartwatch features.

For training, there also is an innovative weekly rundown overview. This displays comprehensive information about your results and additional exercise profiles. Like Apple Gymkit, it is possible to send data from the watch to compatible machines like treadmills.

Fueling that is more intelligent

The Polar Vantage M2 is now available with a new color palette, with a two-tone pattern apparent through the band’s tiny holes.

It, much like Ignite 2, has new music buttons and weather updates on the wrist. Again, a unique weekly rundown in the app makes it easier to keep track of your information and progress over time.

The Vantage M2 also features FuelWise, a feature previously only available on the Polar Grit X and Vantage V2, which assists you in planning your fluid and carb consumption during endurance competitions to avoid hitting the wall.

What’s ahead?

Other changes are already forecasted. Later this year, new sensor modes will be added to the Polar Vantage V2 and Grit X, and the Flow app will receive several updates. DigitMize will post an update once we’re aware of what they are.
