Huawei Watch 3 Review for 2021: Our Review!

The new Huawei Watch 3 adds Harmony OS, but will it be smart enough to outperform Apple and Samsung?

Huawei Watch 3

Design

Huawei has mastered the art of creating wearables that resemble watches. Faces that are large, bold, and circular, with minimal bezels and physical buttons on the right side. Those buttons on the Huawei Watch 3 feature a familiar rotating crown, providing you with all of the scroll-wheel experience of an Apple Watch without any of the WatchOS rectangular feelings. The watch also does away with the rotating bezel seen on some of Samsung’s smartwatches, resulting in a well-balanced experience.

The Watch 3 is available in a variety of colours. Namely, a black or silver body and a supple athletic strap, a leather strap. Or if you choose the Pro, a titanium case and a metal link strap.

The Huawei Watch 3’s AMOLED display is bright and crisp, reaching 1,000 nits and allowing for comfortable outdoor viewing even in bright sun. And the 60Hz screen is much quicker than Watch GT versions as you navigate through menus, looks fantastic. At 326ppi, the 1.43-inch AMOLED screen exudes excellence, while the curved glass on top is easy to swipe across.

  • Large Fluorescein, leather, and metal links strap options
  • 1.43-inch screen with 466 x 466 resolution.
  • Weight: 63g, dimensions: 46.2 x 46.2 x 12.15mm

Features

  • Dual GPS provides more precision in location
  • The body is made of titanium and the glass is sapphire.
  • A larger battery with a battery life of up to 21 days has been added, as has a temperature sensor.
  • There are over 100 exercise modes available.
  • Fall detection and SOS calling

The Huawei Watch 3 Pro replaces the materials with sapphire glass and a better quality titanium casing, with a ceramic finish on the back. The watch also has dual-channel GPS for an even quicker lock-on while out for a run.

The Pro additionally foregoes leather and silicon straps in favour of quality metal links. Although less workout-friendly, there is no compromise in terms of style. It’s worth mentioning that perhaps the Watch 3 Pro is rather big, so if the Pro characteristics we’ve discussed don’t appeal to you and you like lighter watches, the basic choice is the best.

The Watch 3 is outfitted with a Huawei-made custom dual-processor that powers high and low modes, as well as 16GB storage and 2GB RAM.

The inclusion of a temperature sensor is not a game-changer, but it is a nice addition (and beats the latest Apple Watch). And although app support is limited at this time, the overall experience is positive. The ease with which the watch may be recommended is determined by how it compares to rivals around the same price.

The Huawei Watch 3 wouldn’t be a comprehensive smartwatch without a strong emphasis on wellness, but it is the first major smartwatch to have a temperature sensor, allowing you to monitor another element of your health during the day.

Huawei’s latest wearable, which borrows a few functions of the Apple Watch, also has automated fall detection and SOS dialling if a fall is detected. Furthermore, SpO2 monitoring, over 100 exercise modes, heart rate monitoring, stress management, and sleep tracking all have returned, and unlike other wearables, they all function even in the watch’s battery saving mode.

Battery

  • In smart mode, the Watch 3 may last up to three days
  • In smart mode, the Watch 3 Pro can last up to five days
  • They both charge wirelessly

Qi charging is used to charge the Huawei Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro wirelessly. The Watch 3 lasts three days in smart mode and 2 weeks in battery saving mode, while the Watch Pro lasts 5 days in smart mode and 21 days in battery saving mode.

What is the difference between the Huawei Watch 3 and the Huawei Watch 3 Pro?

In summary, the major difference between the Huawei Watch 3 and Huawei Watch 3 Pro is that the latter is made of higher-quality materials and has a longer battery life. That’s all there is to it!

HarmoneyOS

Unlike earlier Huawei wearables, which ran Android Wear or LiteOS, the Watch 3 runs a hybrid of the two. It includes what seems like a forked version of Android Wear in its full-power form, with complete app compatibility through the Watch’s AppGallery. Enjoy sleek menus and Apple Watch-like app grid. When you switch to the power-saving mode, the smart stuff gets turned off in lieu of battery conservation. The end product is HarmonyOS 2.0, an umbrella operating system.

Smart mode enables capabilities such as 4G compatibility through an eSIM allowing call capability, third-party software downloads, online music streaming, and more. Petal Maps, Huawei’s navigating solution, is also scheduled to be available on the Watch 3 by next month (July 2021).

Advantage

Huawei has been working on HarmonyOS since 2016. To distinguish itself from Google and Apple and start cutting its dependence on US technology, the firm advertises HarmonyOS as an os that can operate across numerous internet-connected devices, from smartphones to wearables and even TVs.
